While the Motor Faction team toured the streets of the capital today to celebrate the centenary of the founding of the Jordanian state, we stopped to inspect a rare car belonging to the late – God willing – His Majesty King Hussein bin Talal – may God rest his soul -, as this car is considered one of the most important cars in the history of Jordan. American sports cars.
The 1990 AC Cobra (replica), originally from the Shelby Cobra, is equipped with a 4.9-liter eight-cylinder engine, capable of generating 250 hp and a massive torque of 406 Nm. This icon was also equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. The amazing thing here is that the AC Cobra weighs only 980 kg, meaning that the car has the ability to go from zero to 100 in 5.2 seconds!
It is considered one of the greatest classic sports cars of all time. As we mentioned earlier, this car is a replica, and the reason goes back to 1963, when the American racing car driver “Carroll Shelby” produced only 998 cars. Due to the rarity and difficulty of obtaining this distinctive car, many companies around the world competed to build and produce a perfect replica, but with mechanical and technological improvements. Whereas, the car you see above is an AC Cobra (replica) produced in Australia in 1990. In addition, it has a new 5.7-liter eight-cylinder engine capable of generating 350 horsepower.
Many may be surprised that there are two different names for this car. This is because Carol Selby, the most famous American racer who decided in the early sixties, decided to build a car with a European style, but with an American engine. After he was able to convince Ford of this idea, he contacted a British company called “AC”, which was facing many obstacles in finding the best engine for its car. Hence, a strategic partnership emerged between the British AC company and the American Ford company, where Carroll Shelby used Ford engines and the AC Cobra chassis. For this reason, this icon was called in the United States the “Shelby Cobra”, while in Britain it was called the “AC Cobra”. This car is available at the Royal Automobile Museum.
